HAMMOND, La. – The Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team placed four student-athletes on the 2024 Southland Conference All-Academic Softball Teams, which were released by the league office Monday.
Sophom*ore third baseman Maria Detillier, as well as senior pitchers Cera Blanchard and Ellie DuBois were first team selections, while senior first baseman Lexi Johnson was named to the second team. The four conference All-Academic selections by the 2024 team matched the 1993, 1995 and 2022 squads for most in program history. The members of this year's quartet were all key contributors to the first conference championship and NCAA Regional appearance in program history.
Detillier, an accounting major with a 4.0 grade point average, led the Lady Lions and ranked second in the SLC with 49 RBI and started all 62 games at third base. The Gramercy, Louisiana native also ranked among the Southland leaders in batting average (.354, 6th), OPS (.931, 10th), runs (42, 5th), hits (64, 4th), doubles (11, 8th), triples (3, 5th), walks (22, 7th), sacrifice bunts (7, 6th) and sacrifice flies (3, 8th).
Blanchard, a general studies major with a 3.694 GPA, added to her trophy case, as she was the first SLU pitcher since 2007 to be named first team All-SLC in addition to being selected to the SLC All-Tournament team. The Metairie, Louisiana native finished 18-3 on the season with her only losses coming against NCAA Tournament participants Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss. Blanchard led the SLC with four saves and a .196 opposing batting average, while also ranking among the league's best in ERA (1.77, 2nd), strikeouts (111, 6th) and wins (2nd).
Rounding out the first team SLU selections was DuBois, an elementary special education major with a 3.868 GPA. The Shreveport, Louisiana native was a second team All-SLC selection, as the program's career saves leader ranked among the SLC leaders in ERA (1.95, 3rd), opposing batting average (.233, 8th) and wins (16, 3rd). DuBois finished the season with a 16-6 record and beat No. 21 Clemson twice in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional.
Johnson, who carried a 3.291 GPA in general studies, was named to the Southland All-Academic Team for the second straight season. The second team All-SLC choice and SLC Tournament MVP hit the biggest home run in program history – a walk-off three-run shot in an 8-7 SLU win over UIW in the conference tournament championship game. The Reserve, Louisiana native led the team and ranked fourth in the Southland with four home runs, while also ranking among the league leaders in slugging percentage (.527, 10th), hits (59, 6th), RBI (4th), doubles (10, 10th) and triples (3, 6th).
To be eligible for the All-Southland Conference softball teams, student-athletes must have maintained a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average through the Fall 2023 semester and completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution prior to the beginning of the 2024 season.
