It turns out Alec showed up at the Harpers with a purpose: revenge. In a flashback, we see that he's one of the kidnapped boys from 15 years earlier who managed to survive. It wasn't Gordon after all: It's been Greg all along.

It's implied that Greg was abused as a child, which made him grow up to be a child kidnapper and molester. He would kidnap and kill many children, leaving their mutilated corpses next to a green switchblade.

The audience sees Alec having flashbacks of him as a kid being kidnapped by none other than Greg which meant that he was the killer all along and that Cole Gordon, the man in prison, is actually innocent.

The detective overpowers the young man and decides to pin the blame for everything on Alec. To make his story real, Greg stabs himself. While the detective is distracted, Alec wakes up and manages to shoot Greg down with his own gun. The serial killer is dead, but I See You still has one more surprise for the audience.

Alec also wears the mask to hide his identity when he attacks Connor in his bedroom and later when he goes after Greg. While Mindy is simply living in the house because she needs a place to stay and wants to film her and Alec phrogging in someone's house, Alec has ulterior and much darker motives.

After Mindy witnesses Greg gaslight his wife, she finds Alec has taken things way too far: He has drugged Connor and tied him up in the tub. Mindy threatens to call the cops. They get into an argument, and Alec accidentally pushes Mindy down the stairs, knocking her out.
